North West Coast

North West Coast Tribes

The North West tribes were mighty. As you read this you will find about their amazing culture.

The north west coast has an interesting home named the plank house .To build there plank house. we used cedar logs.cedar split easy into the boards that covered the house.In these houses we had 4 corner posts that held the wall.Anther intresting fact is how huge they were.The plank house is one spacious room and it is 160 square feet.This enourmous room can hold 100 people.Since this is a gigantic space they had weddings and other celebrations. Now you now how the plank house was made.

I’ll tell you about our clothes. To begin with the North west coast people wore cedar bark .They got the cedar bark by cutting it from a cedar tree .If they took to much the treewould die. The strands of bark were woven in a clever way. The North West coast natives also made a cedar cape. Goat hair or fur was used to make the bark comfy. These capes were water proof to. They also wore hats of spruce roots . The hats were waterproof too. The spuce roots were heated up.Then they wove the spruce roots and desighned them And there you have it. I told you all about our clothes.

The North West Coast ate lots of sea food I’ll tell you about it . We caught and ate lots of salmon .We caught millions of salmon. Salmon is our main food . The salmon returned every summer. They used harpoons and nets to catch the sea food . They dried the salmon and smoked it and gave it away. They did not just eat salmon they ate other ocean creatures like whales. We used blubber for fire wood because it bured a LONG LONG time. How they caught these massive animals was they dug a HUGE hole by the beach.The men went into a large whale canoe and tried to find a whale. If they found a whale they would drive it into the hole they at the beach dug up then they would of threw

spears at the whale till it died. That’s what the North West coast ate.

We had cool tools and weapons I will tell you about it . To begin with we had canoes. We had a freight canoe. It was designed to carry lots of weight. The length of this canoe was forty feet. We also had a whale hunting canoe it was seventy feet.Thirty men could fit in it. We also had large harpoons. We used harpoons for caching salmon .As you can see the North West Coast had useful tools.

The North West Coast had a fantastic enviorment. To begin with the weather was moderate. The warmest month is July. The coldest month is Decemeber. The rainest month is November. We also lived in a forest. In the forest we had lots and cedar, lakes, rivers, and lots of animals. We used cedar for clothes and houses. The rivers were full of salmon and animals were good for food. As you can see the North West coast had a fantastic environment.

You should now see that the culture of the Northwest tribes was very interesting

Sioux

The Mighty Sioux Tribe

The Sioux was a mighty tribe who lived in the plains.

The Sioux built an interesting shelter called a teepee. I am going to tell you about it. To begin with the teepee was made out of buffalo skin. For a huge teepee you need about 18 pieces of buffalo skin. The men and boys hunted the buffalo. The women weaved the skin and scrapped it. The women also put it together. Another cool thing about the teepee is it was easy to put up and take down the Sioux travel a lot and it was hard for them .Tocarrey the teeppe a dog or a horse can hold the teepee on the travel , one family could fit in the teepee.As far as one can the teepee was a grate

The Sioux had interesting food. I am going to tell you about it. First there was pemmican.

Pemmican was made out of fat, dried berries, and bison meat. The men got the meat .

The women got the berries and mixed the berries with fat .Another food is buffalo. It was cut up in pieces then put into hot boiling water.T o boil the water they put hot stones in the water As far as one can see the Sioux had great food.

The Sioux wore inserting clothes. First on their feet they wore moccasins. Mccasins were made out of fur and deer skin. The men wore moccasins when they were in war. The men also wore buffalo skin made into a robe. The men wore the robe in winter when they where hunting. It kept them very warm in the harsh freezing cold winter. In conclusion the Sioux had interesting clothes.

The Sioux had interesting weapons and tools. The first weapons I am going to tell you about the bow. The bow was used for hunting mostly. The bow is super short. The bow had a small sticks and string. Another is a bone flesher. The bone flesher was made out of bison and elk bones. The bone flesher took fat off of hides. As far as one can see Sioux had great weapons and tools.

Hopi Tribe

The Hopi Tribe

This paper is about the Hopi tribe. They lived in the south west

desert.

I will tell you how the adobe house was made. First it was made with mud, sticks and stone. The mud was formed into bricks.Bricks were put on top of each other to build the house. Secondly it was built like an apartment. There was a hole on a kind of balconie with a ladder to get in. There was many levels like an apartment. In conclusion the Hopi had an interesting home.

I will tell you what the Hopi ate. First the Hopi ate corn and made it into cornmeal. Corn was the most important food for the Hopi. The Hopi ate foods such as squash, bread and meat. Secondly they ate fruit like prickly pear fruit. The Hopi had prickly pear fruit but they had to be careful because it was prickly. Prickly pear fruit tastes similar to watermelon and raspberries. In conclusion the Hopi had interesting food.

I will tell you about the clothes the Hopi had. One of the clothes the Hopi girls and women wore was the manta. It was made of a black cotton blanket. There was a short sleeve on their right shoulder. Next I will tell you what they wore in winter. To keep warm long sleeved shirts and pants were worn. The shirts and the pants were made out of cotton picked by the women. They had a blanket made of deerskin. In conclusion the Hopi had interesting clothes.

The Iroquois lived north east woodlands. They were a strong tribe. By reading this you will learn some information about the tribe.

The Iroquois had clothes that are interesting and I will tell you about them. To begin with they had shirts. That shirts can be yellow, red and blue. The colors are made from berries. The Iroquois wore long sleeved shirts that where made from buck skin. The girls made them. Secondly our skirts are long The girls have skirts thair are made from buck skin. And they are go to their ankels. And know you can see that are clothes are very interesting

The Iroquois had interesting food and I well tell you about them. First I will you about the vegetables. We had a lot of vegetables like corn, squash beans, tomato’s and cucumbers. We can grid our corn with are corn grid with are corn grinder we can make corn bread. The Iroquois ate many types of meat. Our meats were deer, beaver, bear, rabbit, squirrel,and turkey. The men hunted them. We did not eat it raw.We cooked the animal. Now you can see Iroquois have interesting food.

The Iroquois have good tools and weapons. First I will tell you about a tool. The tool I will tell you about is snow shoes they were made from wood. the snow shoes were big so they would not sink in to the snow. They had a strap so you can slip your moccasins in. Secondly we have bows. Our bows are made from a 4ft limb of cedar and sinew. Sinew was from the animals tendons and the sinew was the string. One can see that are tools and weapons our interesting and good.

I well tell you about two interesting facts about how the longhouse was made. To begin with are house was huge! Our house was to fiveteen to tweenty ft high. Tweenty ft is the height of twoof our class rooms. It was onehundred-fifty ft long and thirtyfour families could live in one. One hunderd-fifty ft is as long as the elementary hall. Another fact about the long house is how it was formed. The wood and poles would make the framed.. The poles would keep the house up. In conclusions the Iroquois made an interesting longhouse.

Now you can see the Iroquois are an interesting tribe.

Dear Parents,

We have had a very busy week. Read on to learn all about it. First we have been writing paragraph drafts about our native tribes. We have been researching facts on the computer and in books. Paragraphs have topic detail, explain and a conclusion. As a class we are starting to get very good at writing paragraphs. Another thing we have done is we finished Robinson Crusoe. Robinson was shipped wrecked. He went to an island and had many adventures. He was stuck there for 28 years. Finally we have learned about the Emotional Piggy bank. We learned that we can make deposits and withdrawals. We can make a deposit by saying "Thank You", being polite, being respectful and doing small acts of kindness. IT is important to understand so we can work better together. As you can we have had a busy week!
